Breathe California Awards Grants to Three Lung
Cancer Researchers Breathe
California would like to congratulate
the recipients of our 2009 research grants! This includes two
researchers at Stanford University: Dr. Rebecca
Fahrig, who is exploring the use of a new imaging
technique to increase early diagnoses of lung cancer cases; and
Dr. Heather Wakelee, who is investigating the use
of the drug bevacizumab among new lung cancer populations.
Learn more about these
projects.
In addition, we are proud to join a coalition of five other lung
health organizations in congratulating Dr. Navdeep
Chandel, the recipient of our jointly-sponsored
Lung Cancer Promise of Tomorrow

Clean Cities Coalition Hosts Electric Bus
Demo
On February 6,
Breathe
California and the Silicon
Valley Clean Cities Coalition joined the San Jose
Redevelopment Agency in helping stage a public demonstration
of a new zero-emission, battery-electric, transit bus! Held at San
Jose’s City Hall Rotunda, the event offered elected
officials, transit representatives and alternative fuel advocates
the opportunity to check out the new 60-passenger bus designed by
Proterra. Highlighting how electric buses can
protect the health of our children, a class of kindergarteners from
Trace Elementary School was among the first to climb
aboard the bus during its first demo run through San Jose.

Proterra's new generation of electric buses.
