Kick Off the New Year Free of Cigarettes!

As people across the country prepare to tackle another New Year’s resolution, Breathe California is helping those making one of the most formidable and significant resolutions of all: quitting smoking. This January, we’re bringing our signature Ash Kickers Quit-Smoking Class back to the South Bay to help local residents start the New Year smoke-free. Led by a trained facilitator, the class utilizes group support and offers participants resources and strategies to quit and stay quit. We’re there every step of the way as our participants work towards a healthier life! Learn more about our Ash Kickers program or click here for our New Year’s class times/locations.

Want to read up on just how harmful smoking really is? Check out our Tobacco Brochure or call our Breathe California office at (408) 998-5865 to speak to one of our trained tobacco control staff members.

Bus for Breath Trip Culminates with Adoption of New Diesel Truck Standards

With 20 advocates on board, Breathe California’s “Bus for Breath” headed to Sacramento on December 12th to urge the state to clean up the dirtiest trucks on the road. Once there, the delegation of health experts, environmental advocates and other local residents testified before the California Air Resources Board about the dangers of diesel pollution. And before the day was over, the group would celebrate the adoption of tough new pollution standards for all diesel trucks in the state! Read more.

Youth for a Cool Earth Project Gears Up at Milpitas High School

While countless teens celebrated the start of winter break by sleeping in or hanging out with friends, a dozen of students from Milpitas High School took on a truly epic challenge: global warming. Taking part in Breathe California’s Youth for a Cool Earth training, the team of teengers spent the days leading up to Christmas planning activities to encourage their peers to drive less during the New Year. In addition to creating a number of creative posters to hang around campus, the group created a “Jeopardy” game that they’ll use to educate other students about global warming when they return in January.
