Breathe California Sponsors Bill to Make All
Hospitals Smoke-Free
Breathe California
is proud to be co-sponsoring AB 574, a new state
bill authored by Assemblymember Jerry Hill (San Mateo) that would
make all hospital campuses in California completely
smoke-free! As centers for public health, hospitals have a
responsibility to provide patients, visitors, and staff with a
healthy, clean air environment. This is especially important for
at-risk individuals, including those with asthma, lung cancer and
heart disease. In addition, AB 574 would require hospitals to post
no-smoking signs and help refer patients to smoking cessation
services.
AB 574 will be heard by the State Assembly’s Health Committee
early this month. Learn
how YOU can support our drive to make all California hospitals
smoke-free!
Congratulations to Our Newest CARB
Member
We
would like to congratulate Santa Clara County Supervisor
Ken Yeager on his appointment to the California Air
Resources Board (CARB)! On March 2nd, Supervisor Yeager was
honored by approximately 50 local leaders and environmental
advocates at a reception hosted by Breathe California. As
the first CARB member from Silicon Valley in more than 30 years,
Supervisor Yeager will bring a fresh perspective as the state
continues to tackle critical air quality issues.

quality efforts or visit www.arb.ca.gov to learn

Save More On Next Year's
Taxes
With April 15th quickly approaching,
taxes are on the minds of many. While it is too late to earn any
deductions for 2008, there are many ways to obtain benefits for
2009, while helping yourself and your loved ones earn more. This
includes a number of opportunities to support charities like
Breathe
California while reducing your overall tax
burden!
If you'd like to know more, please give Steve French a call at
408-998-5865 or send him an e-mail at steve@lungsrus.org. You can also

changes.
