Agency Awards $25,000 Research Grant to Local Lung Cancer Researchers
Breathe California is proud to announce that it has awarded a $25,000 research grant to Stanford University to explore a drug that has shown strong potential to increase survival among lung cancer patients. As part of the agency’s program to support local lung disease research, the grant project will test the use of bevacizumab (the generic version of Genentech’s Avastin) among a broader population as well as in combination with other treatment options. Spring is here and allergies and asthma attacks are at their worst. Fortunately, Breathe California is offering a number of programs to help protect students and teachers from these health hazards. Our school-site asthma education is a great way to help students with asthma learn to control their condition. In addition, our Tools For Schools program can help school staff assess indoor air quality issues on campus. Have You Heard….???
A new tax law allows anyone who will be 70½ at the time of contribution to donate up to $100,000 per year in 2006 and 2007 from an IRA or Roth IRA to a qualified public charity, like Breathe California, with no federal tax consequences. What’s more, these donations will count as part of your required minimum distribution! This new exception for donations can greatly benefit individuals who want to avoid paying taxes or being pushed into a higher tax bracket when making their minimum annual IRA distribution. Want to learn more? Contact Steve French at (408) 998-5865 or steve@lungsrus.org for more information about taking advantage of this new opportunity.
