Help Reduce Winter Air Pollution from Wood Fires

This month, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District will be considering new regulations on one of the most significant sources of wintertime particulate pollution: wood fires. Particle pollution has been linked to a number of serious and potentially deadly health problems, especially among children, seniors, and those suffering from heart or lung disease. The air district is proposing rules to: ban wood fires during “Spare the Air Nights,” restrict the type of wood and materials that can be burned in fireplaces, and require wood-burning appliances that are installed or sold in the area to use cleaner technologies. Help us protect the health of local residents by letting the air district know you support these important wood burning regulations. Send your comments by December 10th to Eric Pop, Air Quality Specialist, via e-mail at epop@baaqmd.gov  or via mail at 939 Ellis Street, San Francisco, CA 94109. To learn more about the rule, read the air district’s Public Notice for the regulation or view the newsbrief listed below.
