TAP Teen Cessation Program
Each year, Breathe California helps local teens quit smoking through the TAP program. Developed by W. Keith Pendell and Community Intervention, Inc., the research-based program takes a comprehensive approach to help teens (ages 12-18) quit smoking and/or other forms of tobacco use.
The 8-session program is designed to gently guide participants to their quit date and helps them remain tobacco-free. Our trained facilitators teach teens the skills needed to quit while also offering guidance and support as they seek to remain tobacco-free. In addition, TAP offers teens an abundance of health information, opportunities for self-assessment, thought-provoking assignments and engaging visual aids. As a result, the TAP program offers kids the best chance to kick the habit at an early age, and avoid a lifetime of addiction and health problems.
Breathe California currently works with local schools to bring the 8-week TAP program to students on campus. Classes typically range from 5-15 teens and can be scheduled at any time throughout the school day. The organization currently partners with the San Jose Unified School District to offer the program and welcomes other schools or groups interested in helping teens quit smoking.
