School-Site Asthma Education
Breathe California's school site asthma education is designed to empower children and their parents to take control of asthma. This entertaining, interactive program has a documented track record of success and can be taught by professionals or volunteers. Children who participate in it manage their asthma better, get higher grades and build self-esteem.
Asthma education is now being brought into thousands of schools around the country, thanks to the collaborative efforts of school boards, principals, teachers, school nurses, parents, sponsors, and volunteers from a wide range of communities. The ultimate goal is to reach every child with asthma, through the nationwide network and with help from countless community partners.
The program consists of 6 lessons, which are taught during the school day. Each lesson is 40 minutes long and is designed to be easy for trained volunteers or school staff to present. A detailed curriculum, an instructor's guide, plus posters and handouts, make teaching and learning fun for everyone involved.
While asthma strikes children of all backgrounds, minority groups are disproportionately affected. Our program has a distinctive multicultural appeal and is now available with both English and Spanish language text on the handouts and posters.
All over America, communities are mobilizing to help children with asthma
take control and succeed.
